Alaina Lambed ~ February 20th, 2012!!

On February 20th, 2012 I went out to check on Alaina and she appeared to be in labor. So a little bit later I went to check on her and sure enough there were two legs out. So we watched for a little bit and then I assisted it out just a little bit . . . it was not stuck really at all. She had a huge 13 pound ram lamb. The sire is a Katahdin ram, Rocky and the dam is our Tunis ewe, Alaina.

Here is a video of her birth ~

Princess Margaret Lambed ~ February 19th, 2012!!

Well, on Sunday, February 19th, 2012 I went to check on the pregnant ewes in the stall in the barn to see if any of them were in labor. And sure enough, Princess Margaret had a huge stream of mucus and two front legs hanging out. So, I got mom and some of my siblings so they could watch. We watched for a little bit and then she had the lamb just fine. I just assisted it out when she pushed its head out. She had a nice and big ram lamb just fine, he was not stuck. He is all white with one brown spot on the side of his hip. The sire to the lamb is a Katahdin ram, Rocky. And the dam is a Katahdin ewe, Princess Margaret.

Brenta lambed ~ February 15th, 2012!!

Brenta lambed Wednesday to twins. She had them just fine with no issues. She had 1 ewe lamb and 1 ram lamb. We do not know who the sire to the lambs is, because we got Brenta when she was bred. From looking at the lambs it looks like the sire was a Painted Desert or Barbados or something along those lines.

Snickers Lambed ~ February 8th, 2012!!

Well, on Wednesday, February 8th, 2012, Snickers, one of our Dorper ewes lambed to triplets . . . 1 ram lamb and 2 ewe lambs.

I was awakened by my mom around 4:30am, because Snickers had two dead lamb heads hanging out. My brother tried to get them out but was unable to do so. We woke my sister up, and she had to push the lamb on top all the way back in and then pull the lamb on the bottom out . . . sad to say that lamb was dead:( After that my sister pulled the other "dead" lamb out . . . but then the "dead" lamb was alive!! Praise God for us being able to get it out before it died like its other sibling did. After we got the second lamb out the third lamb's head popped out, so we pulled it out . . . she was not really stuck. The dead lamb was the ram lamb and the two alive lambs are the girls.

After all that, we tried to get Snickers to stand up, but she was unable to stand. Either she had permanent nerve damage or just needed time to heal up. It can take up 3 weeks for her to get better we have read or she could have permanent damage . . . hopefully she will get better.

Because of that we are bottling one of her lambs. The other lamb was able to figure out how to nurse while she is laying down.

The sire to the lambs is a Katahdin ram, Rocky and the dam is a Dorper ewe, Snickers.

Appalachia Lambed ~ February 3rd, 2012

Well, sorry for being almost 3 weeks late, we have been very busy lambing out ewes, taking care of them and the rest of the animals, bottling lambs, and one of our friends had a baby.

Anyways, Appalachia went into labor after I got home on Friday from picking up the Icelandic sheep. We went over to our friend's house for a little bit and then when we came home around 9:30pm Appalachia had a bubble. We just stood there and watched her till about 10:05pm and then that bubble popped and another bubble appeared. Then a bit later another bubble showed up, so now there were 2 bubbles out. One or maybe both of the bubbles (I can't remember)  popped a little bit later. Now it was sometime between 10:30 and 10:40pm. It was starting to look like the lambs needed to be pulled out. So me, my sister and mom went in the jug. I felt first and felt that her opening was very tiny and she had a good sized lamb trying to come out . . . it was not going to work. So, I told my sister to do it, because she is much more experienced than I am:) My mom had to help her stretch her skin out some while my sister pulled the lamb out. They were able to get the lamb out, but it was pretty stuck. After that, we thought she had no more lambs, so we went inside and a little bit later my mom and I went to check on her just to make sure, and sure enough there was a breech lamb hanging out. So, my mom pulled it out, it was not really stuck. She had two beautiful black and white ram lambs.

The sire to the lambs is Eldorado, our Painted Desert ram. And the dam is Appalachia, one of our Painted Desert ewes. Both of the lambs are able to be registered with the Painted Desert Sheep Society.

Ewe Neek Lambed ~ February 3rd, 2012!!

Well, Friday (February 3rd, 2012) morning around 5:45am I was awakened by mom saying something like "the big Dorper ewe has twins", so I got up expecting spotted little lambs. I went out to the stall and there were 2 white ewe lambs. I thought "that is kind of strange that she had only two and they are white".  But then, Ewe Neek started trying to take the lambs from the other ewe, so I thought "what a brat", and smacked Ewe Neek away from the lambs a few times, but she would not stop. I grabbed her and shoved her out of the stall. It was then I realized that Ewe Neek had blood on her udder and on the inside of her tail and she also had colostrum.  I felt bad and let Ewe Neek back with her lambs and grabbed the "lamb stealer" and shoved her out. While the "lamb steeler" ran around yelling for 2 hours or more.

The sire to the lambs is Rocky (Katahdin ram).
