Baby Monte Rosa

Baby Monte Rosa is a beautiful Finnish Landrace ewe of ours. She is white with some spots around her eyes, has EXCELLENT conformation, is built VERY nice and muscular/stocky (she comes from excellent genetics). Also her fleece is very nicely crimped and is very soft and lustrous. We are in the process of getting her registered with the FBA (Finnsheep Breeders' Association) registry.

Cameron Lambed ~ April 9th, 2012!!

On Monday, April 9th, 2012 I saw Cameron having contractions in the morning. We watched her all day long and she just continued having contractions. We then left and went to town (she still had not had anything). Around 10:00pm when we got home from town she had a beautiful brown/white/black ram lamb out (it looked like she had just had him recently). We watched her on and off for about an hour and then around 11:00pm she had another one, a black ewe lamb. We thought that she was done having lambs so we finished doing all the night time chores and then went to bed. But, when mom got up around 5 or 6:00am she had a big black dead ewe lamb on the ground that looked like it died because she did not lick its face off:( I don't blame Cameron because she was in labor all day long and then had a lamb around 10 that night and then another one an hour later and then another one (she was throughly exhausted, I could see that before she even lambed). Oh well, at least she has two healthy lambs that she is taking care of.

Cathy Lambed ~ April 9th, 2012!!

Monday morning, April 9th, 2012 it looked like she was in labor, so I was checking on her fairly often. Then about lunch time I looked at her and she was pushing so I looked closer and she had feet hanging out. I yelled back to mom at the house and told her. We watched and then a bit later she pushed the lamb out. It was a little black and white ram lamb. After she had him we thought that she was only going to have a single, but then a little later she had another lamb. It was also a little black and white ram lamb.

The sire to the lambs is a Painted Desert ram, named Eldorado and the dam to the lambs is one of our Painted Desert ewes, named Little Hills Cathy.

Britannia Lambed ~ April 4th, 2012

Well, early Wednesday morning around 5:45 or 6:00am we saw that Britannia was in labor. Then around 8:00am (I think it was) I was awoke by mom saying something like "Hurry, the lamb is stuck, I need your help" so I went out to the stall and held the ewe while mom tried to pull the lamb out (she was pulling so hard that she was almost pulling the ewe on her butt) . . . but she was unable to get it out, so we yelled for one of my sisters and she came and was able to get it out with my mom's help. It is was a good sized dark chocolate ram lamb. A little after that she had another chocolate and white ram lamb (he came out just fine).

Britannia is a beautiful ewe, BUT she won't take care of her lambs and now her two little boys are being bottle fed. Due to that Britannia is being culled.

This is the birth.

This is when we put her on the stand and let the lambs nurse.

Here are some pictures of the lambs the next day.

Queen Charlotte Lambed ~ April 4th, 2012

Early Wednesday morning we checked on Queen Charlotte around 5:45am to see if she had lambs yet and sure enough she had two big and BEAUTIFUL lambs on the ground. She had 1 brown and white spotted ewe lamb (she is SOO cute!) and 1 ram lamb thats black with a white tipped tail. The dam to the lambs is one of our meat ewes, named Queen Charlotte and the sire to the lambs is a Katahdin/Dorper ram, named Diamond. We are planning on keeping the ewe lamb for a breeder, since we really like her dam.

Broken Lamb Leg:(

Well, on Monday I shut the moms and lambs up (at least I thought they were all shut up) in a smaller pen and then left and went to town. When we got home one of my older brothers found a lamb out of the pen, so I went to see who's lamb it was that was out. When I went down to the pen my brother was holding Coastal's ewe lamb and said something to sort of "the lamb broke her leg". So, I took the lamb and her mom back to the barn and had one of my sisters splint the leg while I held the lamb. The lamb had gotten one of her front legs stuck in a pallet and thus broke it. My brother found her like that when we got home so I don't know if she was like that the whole time that we where gone, I felt really bad tho because I should have made sure all the moms and lambs where together . . . oh well, hopefully she heals up fine.

Here are pictures while we were splinting it ~
